Hatteras Shopping Spots

Vacationing in a new place can bring up a whole range of new ideas and ways of life which you bring back home with you, whether it be the basics of another language, some souvenirs or a court order (only joking).

You may designate a day when you go shopping on holiday for the things you want to bring back with you and while you don’t want the day to be a rush, you also don’t want to miss out on the best shops while you’re trawling through all the others.

One of the top shopping destinations on Hatteras Island is in the town of Avon, where visitors can find clothes, furniture, arts, crafts, souvenirs, garden and surf stores. The stores in Avon which I most recommend are ‘The Fisherman’s Daughter’; a gift shop and art gallery selling an amalgam of interesting finds and ‘Hatteras Island Boardsports’; an independent clothing boutique selling brand name surf gear for all the family as well as information on the best places to surf around the Island and paying for lessons.

Another shopping focused town on Cape Hatteras is Buxton, where the shops ‘Dillon’s Corner’ and ‘Day Dreams Clothing’ are located. Dillon’s Corner is a store where keen fishers love to bring their family while they look at the tackle, rods, bait etc. downstairs and the children have browse the novelty souvenirs (t shirts, figurines, artworks and books etc.) upstairs.

Day Dreams Clothing is the place to come when you’re looking for great women’s vacation clothing. Floppy sun hats, sandals, sunglasses, light dresses and jewelry amongst many other stylish garments can be found and shopping here allows you to bring that holiday couture back home when the time comes.

An area not to be missed when shopping on Cape Hatteras is Hatteras Village itself. If you’re looking to buy some gifts for friends or family back home then look no further than ‘The Salty Gourmet’ for unusual island cooking sauces, wines, tabletop gadgets and beautiful kitchen and dining accessories.
If that’s not quite your cup of tea then head over to the ‘Blue Pelican Gallery’; a place for Hatteras Island’s best artists to display and sell their work, be it photography, paintings, pottery, jewelry or glassware.

The beauty of shopping on Hatteras Island is that the majority of stores here are independently owned, as opposed to being franchises or part of chain of commercial outlets. In turn, they are individual in style and what they sell so your shopping experience on Cape Hatteras is an enjoyably unique one.
