The Cape Hatteras area of the NC Outer Banks has long been regarded as one of the surfing capitals of the state, if not of the whole east coast. The Hatteras peak jutting into the Atlantic can generate some feirce and powerful waves at times. It is an oasis to surfers in the area, an escape from the slow wave-lapping OBX beaches surrounding Hatteras.
